http://www.aworldlikemyown.comYou might notice today's comic looks a bit different... I lettered it with a font created from my own handwriting - what do you think? I'm not sure it's right yet, I've got to keep tinkering with it, but I'm pretty pleased with the idea. ^_^ And, yeah, we're firmly on the Monday and Friday schedule. For now. :/ But this was the first comic I've gotten done early since I started dating Trent. ^_^;; Hopefully we'll spend the next couple months updating twice a week and building that buffer back up. In other news, I'm going to be at Animazement in Durham, North Carolina next week. :O Tags: awlmo
vampedvixen @ 12:41 am: Denial is a wonderful thing.
Dean is NOT in hell. He's totally not. Nope, nada, not happening. I refuse. My baby's in a happy land full of classic rock and classic cars.. not in a place of torment and brimstone and pain and Britney Spears's latests hits. *whimpers and curls into a ball* I'd also like to say that my family is a pain in the ass because while I was watching Dean die before my very eyes (nooooooooooooooo!! *cries*), they kept barging into my room for asinine reasons and screaming for me to come into the kitchen because they wanted to talk to me about stupid shit. Come on! My baby is dying on screen and all Amy has to say is, "Does this dress make me look fat?" and "Are you sure?" and "Mommy says I look fat in it, she's being mean to me." Can you just give me one hour of peace and quiet? That's all I'm really asking for. Last night I also realized one of the things I like about Dean: He's a fuck up but he has people who care about him regardless. I envy the fact that he has a family that actually gives a crap about whether he goes to hell or not. My own would probably be like, "tough shit, bye now". Same thing with the Petrelli brothers from Heroes, Nathan and Peter are just completely fucked in the head (getting better.. but geez!), but they have this tight knit thing between them. And heck, Simon and River from Firefly.. Buffy and Dawn, ect.. I wonder what it's like to have blood-kin that you can actually talk and relate to and who would care whether you sold your soul to a demon, or got taken away by the government, or went on a crazy-ass suicide mission (Buffy or Heroes, take your pick). How odd it would be to have ANYONE like that in my own life. Alas, real life does not happen in simplified 45-minute chunks. Also, I think I can add Dean to my growing list of people who are on both of the very ends of the spectrum that runs from 'crazy fuck up' to 'people who can get shit done'. I'm starting to realize that the people who are on either extreme of that spectrum, usually occupy the other end of the spectrum as well. I wonder if they run hand-in-hand for any particular reason. I was talking with Brian about this last week at Boarders, but I think we explained it much better back then (using me and someone else as examples). Current Mood: nerdy
asbrand, posting in sca @ 11:25 pm: For All Fighters
I've seen a few questions lately from fighters about where to get more period looking stuff, best place to get a shield, etc. Not to knock this LJ community, but there is a better source out there. The Armour Archive. http://www.armourarchive.org/Then click on the Forums. You will have to sign up. You will have to wait for your new account to be accepted. That forum is filled with both SCA and other Living History folks, from all over the globe. All of your questions, and more, can probably already be found there, and if not, just ask and you will get a multitude of answers. I highly suggest it. We even have Royalty present to answer questions. -THL Asbrand of Norway Current Mood: accomplished Current Music: Sound of Computers

hoskie, posting in sf4m @ 09:40 pm: Wiki editing
I was just futzing around with the Forum wiki (adding new officer succession tables and whatnot) and I've come to realise that some of the wiki code we use isn't exactly the same as the code used in Wikipedia (which is kind of a pain). Does anyone know how to make a page redirect without using this code?: #REDIRECT [[Page Name]]... as it turns out the # is used in our wiki to make an automatically numbered list, which is handy, but useless to me under the circumstances. film2edit @ 09:28 pm: Westward bound.
I'm heading out for a bit this weekend to visit friends. I'll be checking my email tomorrow morning, and when I get home on Sunday. If anyone needs to get a hold of me, either message my phone, or call. Projects resume Sunday evening.
sappersgt, posting in sca @ 07:58 pm: Footwear
Right now, I fight in Desert Combat Boots with long trousers over them. Someday Real Soon Now, I hope to drop them in favor of something more period. Bottom Line Up Front: I am NOT going to learn to be a cobbler and make my own. So, I dink around the internet looking for boots that are Early Period and suitable for combat. I can find a reasonable number of boots that would be correct for an 11th century Byzantine gentleman. One example is here, the attractive boots on the right of the screen. I have two concerns from the fighting standpoint. First, leather soles. I know, that's my only option if I want to be correct. But I'm concerned that on wet grass or mud, a not uncommon condition, they would not give enough traction. Second, ankle support. I've got good ankles. I'd like to keep it that way. So, does anyone fight in reproduction period footwear, and what are your experiences, both positive and negative? If your footwear is available online, what is the link to the merchant?
auronsgirl, posting in discworld @ 08:46 pm: Wear the Lilac - overseas shipping reminder
Just a little over nine more days and you guys won't have to see these posts again. :P But for those of you overseas who were thinking about buying a lilac pin for Wear the Lilac for Alzheimer's, you may want to get a wiggle on. Although the postal rates have gone up (again), I don't think it means that they're going to deliver any faster, with anywhere between 5-10 days delivery time being the norm. I'll be posting an update to the financials tomorrow, but as of tonight, there's less than $50.00 to go to raise $1,000. I never would have dreamed that it would raise so much.
orelalaith @ 08:36 pm: Learning Chinese!
I found a dude selling off the Rosetta stone from a learning center; version 2 chinese 1&2 for $100.00 I'm going to buy a set (and swap with aakin for the japanese language disk.) if you want a set, let me know; i'm emailoing back to him tomorrow; and i will tell him to add some more if possible if anyone else tells me they want it.
orelalaith @ 08:13 pm: Out out damned vegetarian spirit!!!
My cousin, (Ok, I can't remember his real name, his family pet name translates into "Grapefruit", should I be disturbed that most of my maternal family's pet names are food-related? ^_^'' ) is, or rather was, a carnivore. at dinner, we noticed he wasn't really eating meat, like almost none. His explaination? He went to the graveyard (long story) and felt uneasy, and something possessed him, and it won't let him eat meat. He's getting an excorcsm sometime within a week... At first I thought my chinese was that bad, maybe he meant food-poisoning? Nope... he definitely said he was possesed... Was he shitting me? Nope, apparently everyone else thinks it's serious... mom thinks he needs to have a physical exam; if it's a vegetarian ghost it's probably trying to help, him. I put in my $.02... I asked if he tried different meats, maybe it's a humanitarian... *sigh* alas, no english speakers in the crowd. lol. Current Mood: amused

May 15th, 2008aakin @ 05:05 pm: Movies...
Mark and I have a ton of movies we never watch... we were discussing yesterday, and he's decided to clean house and get rid of most of them. I offered to toss them on half.com for him, but before I do that, wanted to post them here in case anyone was interested.
The list of movies is here. $3 for disks, $10 for season/boxed sets. Let me know if you want any of them.
